Depok, July 21, 2024 – During Al Wafi Islamic Boarding School’s “Welcoming Day,” Prof. Taufik Kasturi, an educational consultant at Al Wafi and professor at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), delivered an inspiring scientific oration titled The Power of Dream. Addressing new students, invited guests, board members, staff, and parents, Prof. Taufik’s speech sparked enthusiasm and optimism for the students’ futures.
Prof. Taufik began his speech with a thought-provoking question, “Who are we?” This rhetorical question led into a discussion on the different ways Eastern and Western cultures approach this question. He explained that Western cultures often respond by envisioning who they want to be in the future, while in Asia, the answer typically reflects one’s current identity. Prof. Taufik emphasized the importance of having a forward-looking vision and clear dreams to achieve success.
He went on to introduce the concept of the “Super Santri” (Super Student), central to his oration. Prof. Taufik clarified that being a Super Santri doesn’t mean being the top-ranked, wealthy, attractive, or having plenty of pocket money. Rather, a Super Santri is defined by resilience—the ability to overcome life’s challenges and thrive amidst adversity. He urged students to recognize that success encompasses more than academic or material achievements; it includes the strength to face and overcome life’s trials.
Prof. Taufik stressed that this journey begins with a dream. He explained that dreams open pathways beyond the boundaries of what may seem impossible. He reminded the students that everyone harbors desires to achieve, become, contribute, succeed, and enjoy life. Although these aspirations may seem unattainable at present, with determination and hard work, those barriers can be transcended.
At the end of his speech, Prof. Taufik gave the students an inspirational assignment: to write down their dreams in three parts—ten dreams for the next 10 years, ten dreams for the next 20 years, and ten dreams for the next 30 years. He encouraged them to look back 30 years from now, remembering that they once sat in that room and mapped out their dreams. Prof. Taufik urged them to pursue their dreams, reminding them that their success relies on the blessings of their parents.
This oration is hoped to inspire new students to dream big and have the courage to face life’s challenges. With parental support and approval, combined with passion and hard work, these dreams can become a reality, leading them to become a golden generation capable of contributing positively to society and the nation in this global era.
