Depok, October 9, 2023 | From the moment they wake up until they go back to sleep, the daily activities of the santri are under the watchful guidance of the musyrif. Each day’s routines are invaluable, with musyrif acting as both mentors and role models. The scout activities serve as a bridge to foster stronger family bonds and camaraderie between musyrif and santri.
“Musyrif should understand the basics of scouting to work closely with students in educational activities, like an older sibling guiding a younger one,” said Ust. Zaenal Abidin, Lc., Head of the Scout Council at Al Wafi Islamic Boarding School. He shared this message during the “Character-Based Mentoring Program” event, held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the Al Wafi School Hall in Depok. “By wearing scout uniforms and participating fully, musyrif demonstrate and model good behavior for the students,” he added.
The scout program is organized by Troops 05.197 – 05.198, based at Al Wafi, and holds weekly sessions every Wednesday afternoon. This program provides a platform for musyrif to deeply engage in their mentoring roles, assisting in the physical and emotional development of each santri.
The session, delivered by the Depok Scout Branch representatives, covered essential elements of scouting education and training, including the history of scouting in Indonesia, the scout honor code, and the significance of scout ranks like siaga, penggalang, penegak, and pandega.
The training included practical skills such as marching drills, code-breaking adventures, and scouting techniques that musyrif can apply in guiding santri through their growth journeys. The activities wrapped up with an exciting group adventure, where each group solved codes and presented unique cheers, fostering a spirit of unity.
“Musyrif must actively participate in all student activities, especially in scouting, to provide companionship and guidance,” emphasized Ust. Zaenal Abidin, Lc. He expressed his hope that all musyrif would thoroughly grasp the basics of scouting as outlined in the training material.
The role of musyrif is critical in building students’ character, helping them realize their strengths and potential. The support provided by Al Wafi musyrif covers classroom learning, religious habits, moral and ethical grounding, and the continuous use of Arabic and English.
