Depok, August 10, 2024 – Today, Al Wafi Islamic Boarding School at Campus B, Masjid Kuwait, Depok, West Java, hosted an important educational event. In the presence of distinguished guests, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the International University of Africa, based in Sudan, and the Al Wafi Islamic Higher Education Institute (STAI Al Wafi).
The event was attended by the Rector of the International University of Africa, Prof. Dr. Hatim Utsman Muhammad Khair, along with senior officials from the university. Representatives from Al Wafi, including the Foundation Board, warmly welcomed the Sudanese delegation. Additionally, teachers, students, and invited guests were present, creating a vibrant atmosphere of cooperation.
Alongside the MoU signing, the event served as an opportunity for leaders of both institutions to engage in discussions about future strategic plans. It is hoped that this collaboration will pave the way for student exchanges, joint academic programs, and research and development in the field of Islamic education.
During the event, the inauguration of the Examination Center for Students of the International University of Africa at Al Wafi Islamic Boarding School was also held. This center is expected to support the academic processes of students enrolled at the International University of Africa. The inauguration marks a concrete step towards strengthening the relationship between the two institutions and expanding access to quality higher education for students.
With the signing of this MoU, STAI Al Wafi further solidifies its position on the international stage as an educational institution committed to the development of knowledge while upholding Islamic values.
Remarks from Ustadz Ali Saman Hasan (Foundation Supervisor)
Ustadz Ali Saman Hasan welcomed the Rector of the International University of Africa, Prof. Dr. Hatim Utsman Muhammad Khair, to Al Wafi. He noted that Al Wafi has initiated a Double Degree program as an early step towards the internationalization of education in Indonesia, particularly Islamic education.
Al Wafi operates under the auspices of Puldapii (Center for Islamic Education Institutions in Indonesia), which oversees more than 15 Islamic boarding schools across Indonesia, catering to over 100,000 students. Ustadz Ali expressed hopes for further collaborations with other countries, especially Sudan, which has contributed to knowledge through Sheikh Ahmad Assurkati, a prominent Islamic scholar from Sudan who preached in Indonesia and founded the Al-Irsyad organization.
He also recounted a brief history of Sheikh Ahmad Surkatti’s efforts in spreading Islamic teachings in Indonesia and establishing the Al-Irsyad organization. Ustadz Ali emphasized the importance of continuing the mission of Islamic education for students at Al Wafi and other pesantren. He expressed his joy at the visit from Prof. Hatim Utsman and the positive response to the explanations provided.

Prof. Hatim Utsman Muhammad Khair expressed his happiness to be in Indonesia and to meet the students of the International University of Africa who are currently taking their final exams at the examination center in Indonesia. He thanked Al Wafi for hosting the semester exams for their students. As a form of support, the International University of Africa is also providing five scholarships for Al Wafi alumni to continue their Master’s studies at the university.
